Back-to-Pool Time! July 2007
Believe it or not, it's been a whole season for the FVM girls without any updates…no worries though, they're still up to their regular old tricks- creating awesome routines, putting down kick-butt swims at competitions and finding a perfect balance between practicing hard and finding ways to get out of runthroughs.
This was a quiet season- no major national or international competitions- but the girls and Leona moved forward none-the-less. Building on last year's crowd favorite "Pump It" routine, much time was spent in developing a new free routine. Anyone who's seen it can attest to the fact that the FVM girls make some pretty stupendous secret agents, especially in black pleather and fishnet. First place finishes at Regionals in Surrey and Provincials in Nanaimo (holla!) confirm that the routine will be one to watch out for next season (if they ever manage to complete it…). Did you catch the ending? Look closely…
Training for the 2007/2008 season starts up in July (uh…us "masters" need several months to get back into shape…). With the possibility of more travel, new (and returning) members, and maybe even a new team, FVM is sure to have an exciting season ahead!!! Stay connected to the web for more information about the fantabulous things we'll be up to this year.
Summer Synchro Fun July 2006
The sun is shining, the pool decks are warm, and the Fraser Valley Masters keep rolling towards their date with the rest of the synchro world in August. This summer season has been a busy one so far for all the athletes, not only because of their ramped-up training schedule, but also because of all the events and activities that seem to be going on, some synchro-related, some not! The girls have hosted 3 (that’s right, 3!) successful fundraisers since mid-May, and would like to thank everyone who came out and was a part of both pub nights (at the Mountain Shadow and the Shark Club Burnaby) and the experimental but oh-so-successful Sections Bake Sale (big shout-out to the Coopers for the hot dog machine!). As if that wasn’t enough, there’s less than a month before the team leaves, and still plenty of events planned…the watershow, Alyssa & Paul’s wedding, oh yeah, and packing for the big trip! Oh, the rigors of being “elite” athletes…
Continued Success in Kamloops! April 2006
It was another successful weekend for the Fraser Valley Masters at the Jean Peters Invitational Meet in Kamloops, as the team and duet wowed the crowed with their entertaining, high-energy routines. With almost half the team members pulling double duty as coaches for other clubs, the weekend was very busy (at times almost frantic!). Despite the hectic pace, both the team and duet delivered solid performances in both their technical and free routines, placing first in all categories. Highlights of the weekend included a platform lift that stayed up (for what seemed like) forever, Tina and Disa’s insanely good split boost, great responses from the both crowd and judges, and plenty of team bonding time (mattress jumping…). Keep an eye out for the Fraser Valley Masters at the BC Section Meet at SFU in May, where the team has been asked to do a demonstration of their routine…then it’s off to Worlds!
Starting the season off right! January 2006
On the weekend of January 28/29, the Fraser Valley Masters started off their 2006 competitive season by competing at the Lower Mainland Regional Meet in Coquitlam, BC. Despite having only been back in the water for 3 weeks after a two month break, the team and duet turned in strong performances that were received well by both the judges and audiences. First place ribbons in hand, all team members felt that the weekend was a great start to a (hopefully) successful season, and are looking forward to competing in Kamloops in April, where they will be debuting a handful of new routines (including a new tech team!).
Fraser Valley Conquers Clermont! October 2005
The Fraser Valley Masters just returned from Clermont, Florida where they competed in the 2005 US Masters Synchronized Swimming Championships. Despite sporadic lightning storms and the looming threat of Hurricane Wilma, the competition went ahead as planned and all the athletes (and coach!) had a great time.
A spectacular pool, fabulous swims and a handful of gold medals made it quite the experience for all involved. The team would like to extend their thanks to their gracious hosts and say a big "woo hoo" to all our American friends that we met at the competition. WOO HOO!
